May 31: Nisqually

I can't believe it is the last day of May already... five full months of daily pics already! Almost to the half-way mark? Crazy.

Today, dma and I went to one of our favorite places... the Nisqually nature preserve. It was bursting with spring today.... plants, flowers, song birds, raptors, water fowl.. sun, wind... it was just another lovely day.

May 30: Highway 2

For today's adventure, dma and I headed east on Highway 2. We hit the road without an agenda; just a full tank of gas & an open mind to whatever catches our eye. Our last stop of the day was a view of Mt. Index from a super tiny riverside park (??) in the town of Index.

May 29: Mums

This is Memorial Day weekend. For most people, it is a time to get together with friends for a bbq or head over the mountains for the first camping trip of the year. I have a different tradition. My mom & I spend an entire day taking flowers to the gravesights of some of our beloved family members that have passed away. We headed to my favorite flower spot (trader joe's) and filled up a cart with these beautiful white mums (except for Grandma June, who hated mums.... we picked out some pretty pink flowers instead). The windows in my car made a great soft box. so I couldn't resist taking a few frames. This one was taken with my lens baby.

Friday afternoon traffic. grrrrr....argh.

May 27: Farewell

Good-bye my dear friends. You have been there for me over the years... you have my utmost appreciation. We have gone so many places; crossed the country a few times, actually. Alas, our dramatic, salty escape from Richmond Beach last month pushed your rough edges to the beyond. Farewell, my dearest danskos, farewell.

May 26: A & B

I am surprised that A) they make "tahitian gardenia" shampoo for cats and that B) I bought it. hahaha.

May 25: Underground

And yet another very cool day! Work was super easy... we went on a plant tour, complete with fresh ice cream. yum. Then, I left work early to go on the Underground Tour with dma & butcher. awesome. (btw... happy bday man!). This pic was taken in the Underground museum. yay!

May 24: Sweet Gift

We had kind of an impromptu dinner up at my mom's house today... me, dma, mom, katie, vince & the corbean. It was great; always nice to have a full house! Corbin gave this Strawberry Shortcake soccer ball to Katie as a belated birthday gift. You never know what you'll end up with when you let a little guy pick out presents... he gave Vince a rubber snake & fishing lure antenna topper for his birthday. funny stuff.

May 23: Fond Memories

Dang, Sunday was awesome.
I spent the day strolling along Alki with dma & his brothers... "butcher" and "hmm mmm." I found a little group of irises and remembered some pics that I took in 2007 from the same spot. Couldn't resist snapping a few more... it is my history! I didn't have a blog back then, let alone a dslr. Luckily, dma had posted my iris on his blog, so check out this link to see my old image.

May 22: Storm Chasing

To avoid the rainy weather, dma and I headed east. The Cascades were beautiful, and particularly enchanting... we only made it as far as Cle Elum. Thankfully, most of the snow has melted; this pic was taken from a view point near Stampede Pass. Stampede Pass... can you believe it?

May 21: Drats

This is what I saw when I checked the weather forecast today. Seven days of rain? oh drats.

May 20: Rattlesnake

After work, dma and I headed to an old familiar place... Rattlesnake Lake. It was a lovely evening. lovely.

May 19: The "Z" "O" "O"

I left work a little early today to hang out with my mom & nephew. Our destination for the day was Woodland Park Zoo. It was sunny in Bothell.... rainy in Seattle. Crazy rainy. No worries, though; we are native Northwesterners, so we grabbed some rain gear from the gift shop & braved the elements. ELEMENTS.

May 18: Spokane Street

Tuesday... blah. When I was in college, I used to say that Tuesday was almost the end of the week. A lot of people didn't have classes on Friday, so Thursday was the new Friday, and that meant that Wednesday was like a Thursday. So, by Tuesday night the weekend was near.

Not so for my adult life. Tuesday is still Tuesday and the sweet relief of the weekend feels like it is far, far away sometimes. Thankfully, random photo shoots break up the everyday; on this particular Tuesday, dma and I took some pics down at a little spot on Spokane Street, followed up with a trip to a chic little Thai place. Maybe Tuesday's aren't so bad?

May 17: One of the Monkeys

I went up to visit my sister today & one of my nephew-kitties was chillin in the driveway. Such a sweet kitty. Whats up with me & cats... guess I am a crazy cat lady.

May 16: Point No Point

Another weekend... another adventure! This afternoon we escaped the rainy, cloudy weather and headed west to the Point No Point Lighthouse.
p.s. Happy Birthday Kate-o :)

May 15: The Cut

Today's photographic adventure took place along the shores of Lake Washington. Or is it Lake Union? Anyway... the Montlake Cut. I have two things to say about that ... number one... Go Dawgs.... and number two.... I want a boat!

May 14: Tempting Fate

So, tonight dma and I ordered take-out from a place called "Chinese Food"... I think it has a real name (Mandarin Greenwood or something like that...) but the big sign on top of the building reads "Chinese Food." Thankfully, we lived to tell the tale. Oh, and this place has a gigantic koi... I think it weighs more than Pinky.

May 13: Annual Report

oh happy day.... oh happy da-ay! The 2009 annual report is almost out the door! Fantastic. o.

May 12: zzzz

I really didn't do anything exciting today. But, this peanut butter is outstanding. I love it.

May 11: The Park

Oh yeah... the real reason I went to Kenmore Camera on Monday was to buy a neutral density filter! After work today, dma and I headed over to Marymoor and I tried out my new gear. good times.

May 10: Instant Turn-Around

This image is bitter sweet. The bitter part is that my 2pm cup of decaf via was, up to that point, the highlight of my day. ugh. Pretty crummy, huh? The sweet part, though, is that the evening turned around wonderfully! dma joined me for a trip to Kenmore Camera, where we ran into an old friend & I bought a new tripod!

May 9: Mother's Day... meow

Awwww, to celebrate Mother's Day, my mom gave me a cute little pink toy for Sweet Pea. uh-oh... I might truly be a crazy cat lady, and my mom might be my enabler.

May 8: Forbidden Rose

Today, dma and I headed to the UW campus for some classic shots. These roses are near Drumheller Fountain, pretty... yes? I am not sure if is just an urban legend, but I *heard* that it is illegal to cut these petals; violators being subject to a hefty fine. Good thing I didn't tell that to dma... lol... he can't resist the danger.

May 7: Use What You've Got

This, my friends, is a home-made IR filter. Cool, eh?

May 6: Sodo

So, for the entire month of May, dma is shooting only black & white images. Its pretty cool, of course, I am completely biased because I l-o-ve-love black & whites. As part of his "studies" we headed down to Sodo & I snapped this pic of a street vendor. I liked the sun setting in the background.

May 5: Cinco

This year, I didn't do ANYTHING for Cinco de Mayo.

May 4: Lights Out

The iphone saves the day...again. The lights were out in dma's neighborhood, so we watched movies on his iphone with the light of a lantern. It was almost like camping. I hear that the next day he was still out of power, so he made Teton Coffee.... awww, tetons :)

May 3: Personal Trainer

My newest hobby is being a personal trainer for the domestic short-hairs. As you can see, Sweet Pea has both speed & agility. Maybe tomorrow we'll run laps with the laser pointer.

May 2: My New Friend

Meet my new friend, the Newport Duck!

May 1: Sentrizzl

Hey, look at what I found when I went to the mailbox today... I paid-off my car loan in mid-March and the title arrived in the mail... finally. That means that the Sentrizzl is mine, all mine! Thanks, BECU, it was a good couple of years ;)
